Tuesday around Jackson, WY

We started out today in Jackson to go see the National Elk refuge, unfortunately nobody was home (we found out later that they only show up after they are snowed out of their summer area) We then went and bought some diesel at $4.23 a gallon, a bargain in this area. After a huge salad for breakfast/lunch at Wendy's we headed out to the Snow King Resort for a ride on one of their ski lifts. Katie and Pete on the way up the mountain (self portrait)
The old man of the mountain at the top with the Grand Tetons in the background (ask Katie what Teton means in French)
Looking down at the Town of Jackson with the Elk Preserve in the green area to the upper right
Coming back down the life, can you spot our truck in the picture?
Now can you spot it?
We booked a float trip/barbacue dinner with the Jackson Hole Rafting company, here we are at the "put in" point with the driver (a San Luis Obispo, CA native) about to launch the raft.
Here's our guide Crystal, a Jackson native, putting the air pump away after topping off the air pressure in the two chambers. We had a nice small group, 6 of us and the guide.
We're off down the "rapids". At least they were to these two girls, their first trip and they were a little scared. Since this was a "float" and not a white water trip, we received just a few drops of water and nothing came over the bow. These girls were traveling with their parents and were from Redondo Beach and were also staying at the same place we were, The Painted Buffalo. Even more of a coincedence is that they stay at the Sands of Kahana in Maui!
Katie in her element, enjoying the cruise down the Snake River
Pete with his hair all combed for the picture!
One of the many Bald Eagles we saw perched in the trees.
Another Bald Eagle and his nest.
A close up of the previous Bald Eagle and nest. We finished off the day with a great dinner (part of the trip) and a Wendy's frostie during the hike back to our motel.
