Sheridan, WY to Keystone, SD and Mount Rushmore

Yesterday, August 28th, (a power outage killed the wifi at our hotel and the Verizon WAN connection was roaming, so I couldn't post until this morning), we drove from Sheridan, WY to Keystone, SD. Keystone is a funny little town two miles from Mt. Rushmore.

NOTE: If you already viewed the Old Faithful posting, check it out again, I added a movie today We made it to Mount Rushmore and are parked with a view of the faces. The $10 parking fee is good for one year! Don't think we will be this way again in the next year, anyone need a parking pass for a Blue Truck with California plates?

This is the "Avenue of flags" one for each state leading up to the view of the faces. If you look carefully you can see Katie walking through the flags.

The ranger giving the night time presentation. Part of his presentation is inviting all the active duty and veterans to the state. There were about 150 of us out of maybe 700 in the audience. After lowering the flag we each announced (through the PA system) our name and branch of service "Pete Bickerdike, United States Army"

The faces illuminated at night (no, this was not using my flash!) The same power outage that killed the wifi took out all the lights at the Monument leaving just a few - people scrambled to find their cars!
