!! Lake Powell !!
Today we went out on Lake Powell! What a lake, the following are just a few of the spectacular views that we saw.
Our first view of the bridge and dam from McDonald's parking lot (our breakfast spot, Sausage Egg McMuffins for $1 each)
Looking down at the Colorado River below the Glen Canyon dam (taken from the view area)
Pete with the bridge, dam, and lake in the background.
This was Castle Rock about 15 miles up from the dam. We launched at Antelope Point a new area with a modern marina. They have "valet" boat launching (we used the old self method at the public ramp) and zoom you around in golf carts (Pete rode one to buy a lake map - good thing we almost got lost on the way back to the launch ramp).
Look at the reflections in the water in this shot. The Blue is almost totally replaced with the reflection of the big rock.
If you look very carefully you will see Katie under the arch.
One of the many side canyons we explored.
Note the interesting cave about half-way up the wall.
A closer shot of the same cave, almost looks like it was man-made!
Pete found this picture, take in the early 60's. This is the house that Pete's mother bought brand new at 79 first street, Page, Arizona. Page in these days (the dam was not completed yet) was where all the dam workers lived. Note Pete's '53 Dodge station wagon in the driveway, he was on the way home from school in Colorado. Also note no other houses on the sides or across the street.
